this is a song written by one of my favorite nashville songwriters.  i’m not sure if this song ever got cut but i’ve had a demo version of it for years that i got from his publisher…just him and his guitar…in his low texas grumble.  what a genius.

here are the lyrics:

"It’s a good thing"

it’s a good thing i ain’t got a gun

gotta trembling hand and a lonely man

is a dangerous one

when i get drunk, i shoot at the moon

fall flat on my back in my living room

it’s a good thing i ain’t got a gun

it’s a good thing my old truck is broken down

well you know my luck, i’d crank it up

and i’d go to town

and i might get killed

or i might get caught

doing 90 miles an hour with the headlights off

it’s a good thing my old truck is broken down

it’s a good thing she don’t call me anymore

cuz if i thought she might

you know that i would just walk the floor

cuz she’s gone for good, so no she won’t

i only give a damn cuz i know she don’t

it’s a good thing she don’t call me anymore

it’s a good thing i ain’t got a gun
